Obesity in the NHS – A Call to Action for a Healthier Future

Obesity is a growing problem in the UK, affecting more and more people and putting a strain on both individuals and the healthcare system

Obesity is a growing problem in the UK, affecting more and more people and putting a strain on both individuals and the healthcare system. In response, Reset Health and Newmarket Strategy have launched a project to bring together a group of experts who are passionate about making a real difference. With the help of patients, clinicians, healthcare providers, commissioners, academics and industry, we’ve come together to discuss ways to improve the care and treatment of obesity. Our goal is to find practical solutions that can help people get the care they need, when they need it, and make a lasting impact on the NHS.

In this whitepaper, we share the insights and ideas that came from these discussions. We’ve turned them into clear ‘calls to action’—steps that can be taken at every level, from local healthcare services to government policy. These steps are a guide to tackling obesity, improving health outcomes, and making sure the NHS can continue to care for everyone.

At the heart of this project is the patient. Many people living with obesity often face long waiting times, complicated care, and not enough support. Obesity isn’t just a number—it’s about real people living with health challenges every day. Our aim is to make sure that all patients, no matter their circumstances, have the right care and support when they need it. By doing so, we can help them take control of their health.
