Today we want to talk about ancient grains. Ancient grains include food such as quinoa, spelt pastas and flax and chia seeds. These foods have significant health benefits and have not undergone any selective breeding for centuries and have an incredible range of health benefits. 

Since they haven’t been refined in the ways wheat and rice have, they have retained important nutrients such as fibre and protein, both of which are essential in supporting a healthy gut and managing constipation. Ancient grains have been shown to strengthen, stimulate and boost the immune and nervous systems, and help maintain a healthy hormonal balance. 

Roczen’s favourite ancient grain is the chia seed. Chia seeds are packed with fibre, vitamins, minerals, omega-3 and antioxidants. They are usually soaked in water, dairy, almond or coconut milk, as they absorb 10 times their weight in water to form a tasty treat that can be eaten instead of carbohydrates. Adding berries will make a great dessert, eaten hot or cold.
